The Air Navigation Department is responsible for
organizing, planning and operating safe and effective air navigation
services in the State of Qatar as required by the International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Functions of the Department:
- Manage the airspace of the State.
- Provide air navigation services including air traffic management
services, communications, navigation and surveillance, aeronautical information
services, procedures for air navigation services, cartography or any other
services in accordance with applicable regulations, and such services are
provided for air traffic at all phases of operation.
- Establish and manage the civil aviation telecommunications network in
coordination with competent authorities.
- Provide aeronautical information services (AIS) in accordance with the applicable
regulations.
- Maintain the records of various daily communications.
- Develop plans to upgrade and improve air traffic control systems and
aviation communications systems.
- Identify the required specifications to modernize air traffic control and
air navigation and communication systems.
- Specify the air navigation routes and areas where air navigation is
prohibited or restricted or where air navigation is dangerous, including points
of entry and exit from designated navigation routes in coordination with the
competent authorities.
- Coordinate with air traffic control centers in neighboring countries to
ensure the safety of air navigation.
- Identify the requirements and specifications of electronic communication
devices, navigation equipment and radars and undertake their proper maintenance.
- Maintain communications, navigational aids and surveillance devices used
in the provision of air navigation services.
- Prepare studies related to determining the height of buildings,
installations and obstacles affecting air navigation and its signals, in
coordination with the competent authorities.
- Participate in local, regional and international meetings, conferences
and forums within the scope of the Department.
- Prepare required annual reports.
- Prepare training plans and programs, in coordination with concerned
administrative authorities.
- Propose fees and charges for Air Traffic services.
