Qatar has achieved an outstanding status in the sports sector not only by participating in sports events, but it has won praise for hosting a number of prestigious international sporting events. Such accomplishments are not effortless, as Qatar has endeavored to build world-class sporting facilities, according to international standards. One important facility is Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) which was set up in late 70’s. Therefore, Qatar attracts today many of the top international athletes and holds a National Sports Day annually on the second Tuesday of February.

The comprehensive Development Process in the sports sector in Qatar has led to building world-class stadiums and sport facilities, designed according to high-quality standards. Qatar National Olympic Committee supervises sports establishments, federations, and clubs.


Asian Games 2006

The year 2006 marked a new and exciting era for the city of Doha, which hosted the Asian Games from December 1 to December 15, 2006. Doha Asian Games is a major sporting event in the region and a momentum as Qatar has made a giant leap in the sports sector. The ceremony was attended by The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the  Father Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, presidents, prime ministers, ministers, and senior sports officials. 45 nations participated in Doha Asian Games which presented high quality, exciting and amazing shows, reflecting the comprehensive renaissance of Qatar and its openness to the world.


World cup 2022

Winning 2022 World Cup bid is among Qatar’s most successful achievements, which is a pride to Qatar and the Arab world.  Qatar deservedly managed to overcome the US by 14 votes to eight in the final round. The competition was fierce, so the team headed by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Thani made vigorous efforts to support Qatar’s bid for hosting the 2022 World cup.
