The year 2006 marked a new and exciting era for the city of Doha, which hosted the Asian Games from December 1 to December 15, 2006. Doha Asian Games is a major sporting event in the region and a momentum as Qatar has made a giant leap in the sports sector. The ceremony was attended by The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Father Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, presidents, prime ministers, ministers, and senior sports officials. 45 nations participated in Doha Asian Games which presented high quality, exciting and amazing shows, reflecting the comprehensive renaissance of Qatar and its openness to the world.
World cup 2022
Winning 2022 World Cup bid is among Qatar’s most successful achievements, which is a pride to Qatar and the Arab world. Qatar deservedly managed to overcome the US by 14 votes to eight in the final round. The competition was fierce, so the team headed by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Thani made vigorous efforts to support Qatar’s bid for hosting the 2022 World cup.
